Dushanzi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Junggar Basin S. The type section is located at Dushanzi ~20 km SE of Usu County, Xinjiang. It was named by Compilation Team of the Regional Stratigraphic Table of Xinjiang in 1981.
Lithology and Thickness
Primarily yellowish brown and brownish yellow sandy mudstone alternating or interbedded with pebbly sandstone and conglomerate, containing calcareous concretions. The lithology is relatively uniform and the rocks show a dark greenish brown aspect. The outcrops in the Manas River valley are thickest, being up to >1500 m. From there toward the east and west the formation thins and is of restricted distribution on the northern margin of the basin and exposed sporadically, being generally <50 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It has a conformable contact with the underlying Miocene Taxihe Fm.
Regional extent
Southern margin of the basin, mainly distributed at the Toutun, Changji, Hutubi, Manas and Huoergesi rivers and Duoshanzi in Manas and Usu counties.
